PSRG Inc. (www.psrg.com) is pleased to announce that we will hold our next PSM Forum luncheon on March 5, 2014 at Brady’s Landing Restaurant in Houston, Texas from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM. You are cordially invited to attend. There is no fee to attend this event. A complimentary buffet lunch will be provided.
Guest Speaker will be Mr. Mark R. Briggs, CSP – OSHA Area Director, Houston South Area Office. Mr. Briggs’ presentation will discuss Executive Order 13650: Improving Chemical Facility Safety and Security from an OSHA perspective and deal with OSHA’s Request for Information on Process Safety Management and Prevention of Major Chemical Accidents. Mr. Briggs will also be talking about various elements of the PSM standard from his perspective on the front lines.
In 1992, Mr. Briggs was requested to be part of a large scale incident investigation into the Arcadian Chemical plant explosion. This is where he learned about process safety and over the next several years he became one of OSHA’s leading investigators in the realm of Process Safety Management (PSM), investigating numerous accidents in and out of Texas as part of OSHA’s Houston based PSM team. In 2001, Mr. Briggs moved into the realm of Compliance Assistance where he worked with companies through education and the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) to enhance their safety and health programs. It was during this time (2006) that he received his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. In December of 2007, Mr. Briggs was promoted to Area Director where he manages three teams of compliance officers including the PSM team. He has been with the agency for over 25 years.
Mark has been proudly married to his wife, Dawn, since 1990 and has two wonderful children, the oldest, Bryan, is at Baylor University and his youngest, Laura, is in High School. In the summer of 2013 both Mark and his daughter achieved the rank of Black Belt under the instruction of nationally known Grand Master Al Garza of Premier Martial Arts.
